3D Printed Iron Pit

You can have brilliant ideas, but if you can’t get them across, your ideas won’t get you anywhere
— Lee Iacocca

F3 is all about getting your ideas across! This week we were fortunate to work with one of the largest mining companies on the east coast. The key to successful iron mining is knowing where to dig. The first step in this process is collecting iron levels at various depths throughout a potential dig site. These values are input into a computer model and color coded. To fully convey the best areas to dig, F3 3D printed the iron mine with removable layers representing  various iron concentrations. This iron pit had a large amount of highly concentrated iron which was of course appropriately printed green. This 3 foot wide print conveyed where to dig and how deep. F3 looks forward to future prints within the mining industry and providing unique 3D solutions.
